Misuse of Kiva Gate Damages Entrance

Over the years the Copper Cove Association has experienced vandalism and abuse of association facilities.  Sunday morning a CCA member reported the Kiva Lake Center Entrance Gate was wide open and the association began immediately investigating the problem.

Our new member cards allow CCA to track the usage of all facilities. On Saturday more than 80 members used their cards to enter the Kiva. Some launched boats while others just wanted to enjoy the facility.   Unfortunately, outside people are trying to gain entrance to the Kiva and use the facilities. We even found some members apparently allowing outsiders to launch their boats against our rules.

Vandals Destroy the Gate

On Saturday our security cameras recorded more than a dozen people climbing over the gate because they had no member gate cards. The weight of these dozen plus people bent the gate to a point where it wouldn’t open.A member used his card late Saturday afternoon and it would open so he pushed on it to open completely.  The gate then would not close. We have contacted the gate company to make major repairs on the gate.

This misuse of our facilities is bad since it impacts our members use of our facilities and it requires association funds to repair damage. Another member’s boat clipped the stanchion with card reader by the Kiva gate damaging it. Repair cost could exceed $750. The member has been contacted by our office since our security camera monitors all of our facilities at the lake center.

Pedestrian Gate

The pedestrian gate is now installed and the lake center can be exited using the gate. The electric card reader on the entrance side of the gate will be installed prior to Memorial Day. For right now, if you are walking into the Kiva Lake Center please use the vehicle gate with your card and then exit through the pedestrian gate by the parking lot.

Member Support: We Need Your Help

The Copper Cove Association is the largest homeowners association in Calaveras County. We have a huge area to cover and we have a wide array of facilities. It is impossible for CCA to have staff available everywhere all the time. We need members as our eyes and ears. If you see a problem or illegal or inappropriate behavior call our main number 209.785.2688. The board is exploring establishing new 24/7 phone number for emergency contact. If we all work together we can protect our people, our quality of life and property. Also we need members to respect our rules. Our facilities should be use by those that pay their dues and support our association.
