President Trump Acts to Save Our Sierra Water and Expand Storage

(President Trump with US Congressmen Kevin McCarthy, Devin Nunes, Jeff Denham, and Tom McClintock today at signing of Executive Order)

Background In 2015, Lake Tulloch and our community was threaten by the potential draining of Lake Tulloch in order to allow an irrigation district to comply with ridiculous California efforts to increase fish population in the Delta . The Copper Cove Association open the doors of the Black Creek meeting room for a series of community meetings involving hundreds of citizens and our elected officials. It was the work of this community with others in our region that helped achieve this important victory. Here is the story.

********

President Trump has signed an Executive Order that effectively is in direct opposition to Governor Brown’s State Water Board’s effort to increase the amount of water being removed from Sierra rivers and reservoirs to enhance fish. The order will streamline the construction of dams and other water projects.  This community has been working for years with Congressman McClintock and our state legislators and local officials from Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties in opposing the scheme which could have resulted in the draining of Lake Tulloch in 2015.

Even European media is covering the story. Check our this piece in the UK’s Guardian Newspaper.

Congressman McClintock made comments on this important action in the announcement with the President. Watch them here by clicking  https://youtu.be/Khmgrojwv7I

The action is a result of years of work including a visit this summer  by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke which involved the Congressman and Calaveras County Supervisor Dennis Mills. Supervisor Mills presented Zinke a letter to the President asking him to issue an order ending the release of any federally controlled water in order to implement the State Water Board water grab. This was a major effort and was bipartisan with Assemblyman Adam Gray (D) who joined with Republicans to bring this story to the national and even international media.
